ABOUT THE ROLE

The Investment Manager will support the Investment team and other team members globally in steering new transactions from identification to close. The Investment Manager will also assume portfolio management responsibilities for transactions once closed.

ABOUT THE INVESTMENT TEAM

The investment team is responsible for originating deals, identifying risks and structuring transactions, executing transactions, including negotiation and documentation until financial close, in addition to managing the investment portfolio. The team operates regionally and develops local transaction and relationship management capability in the regional offices.

ABOUT GUARANTCO

GuarantCo was established in 2005 to help close the infrastructure funding gap and alleviate poverty in lower income countries across Africa and Asia. Through the provision of innovative credit solutions, GuarantCo mobilise private investments into critical infrastructure projects and transforms local capital markets.

 

To date, GuarantCo has enabled USD 6.8 billion of total investment and USD 5.7 billion of private sector investment, giving 44.7 million people improved access to infrastructure and creating around 243,000 jobs.

 

GuarantCo is part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG) and is funded by the governments of the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia, Sweden, the Netherlands, Canada and France. GuarantCo’s activities are managed by GuarantCo Management Company, which is part of Cardano Development.

 

The GMC team is small, diverse, focused, collaborative and action orientated. We are looking for candidates who have the experience to deliver against the responsibilities of the role and who are passionate about making a difference whilst working in an entrepreneurial and innovative environment.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct comprehensive qualitative and quantitative due diligence for new deals, including:
    • structuring and credit analysis;
    • financial modelling – including building, reviewing, stress-testing and carrying out scenario analysis; and
    • reviewing and negotiating commercial and legal documentation.
  • Take the lead in the preparation of final credit proposals to the GuarantCo Credit Committee.
  • Support analysts in the presentation of new business and final credit proposals to the GuarantCo Credit Committee.
  • Take the lead in undertaking, coordinating and driving due diligence tasks working alongside analysts with oversight from senior team members – this also includes appointing and liaising with independent advisors. Serve as due diligence point of contact with clients etc.
  • Work alongside the internal impact teams to secure Development Impact and Health, Safety, Environmental and Social approvals for transactions ahead of credit committee.
  • Oversee the delivery of main responsibilities by analysts either on transactions or as part of internal processes, and generally provide on the job training and support.
  • Proactively manage and monitor their portfolio to increase visibility of future risks.
  • Monitor the performance of their portfolio against various covenants, including financial performance, development impact and environmental and social objectives.
  • Develop and carry out relationship plans for each transaction. Manage on-going interactions with various transaction stakeholders (borrower and beneficiary management teams as well as co-investors including bondholders, agents, commercial banks and DFIs).
  • Present well-developed reports with recommendations, including analysis of possible options/solutions, and arguments to senior leadership and at Portfolio Committee. This includes presenting the full picture and a well-considered transaction management strategy.
  • Ensure lessons learned are identified, implemented and shared across the business.
  • Act proactively and on a timely basis to avoid guarantees being called, effectively working with stakeholders to manage deteriorating situations.
  • Handle waivers, consents and amendments requests.
  • Assist with ensuring GuarantCo’s stakeholders adhere to compliance procedures including KYC requirements, conflicts clearance procedures and all other compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Travel to frontier markets in Africa, South and Southeast Asia when necessary.
CORE COMPETENCIES

Essential experience

  • Expertise in the management of structured / project finance transactions.
  • Strong credit risk assessment skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of lending and fixed income products.
  • Strong financial accounting and financial statement analysis skills.
  • Strong financial modelling and cashflow analysis skills.
  • Good knowledge of transaction legal documentation.
  • Track record of delivering a strong client focused service.

Desirable experience

  • Familiarity with guarantees and similar products from Export Credit Agencies, multilateral and bilateral development institutions, monoline insurers etc.
  • Knowledge and experience of restructuring problem assets.
  • Solid understanding of Emerging and Frontier Markets (ideally in Africa and Asia), including familiarity of issues relating to corporate and project finance in these markets
