At the current pace of change, the World Economic Forum says global gender equity will not be achieved until 2158 – 133 years from now.
Across the Private Infrastructure Development Group, of which GuarantCo is part, we make it a priority to empower and include women throughout our work. Great strides have been made towards achieving this through our Gender Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action (GEDI) Plan.
Just one example of a gender equity initiative from GuarantCo’s portfolio is our work with Shams Power in Pakistan. In addition to the provision of finance solutions to support the construction of small rooftop and ground mounted solar plants at commercial and industrial sites across the country, we have co-financed a pioneering female empowerment programme.
Funded by Shams Power and a PIDG Technical Assistance grant, Solar EmpowHer is a training programme for female engineers designed to increase gender diversity in Pakistan’s renewable energy sector. Since 2019, this powerful programme has equipped over 150 women with the technical and practical skills to excel in this important industry.
